I love my Ampeg 810E cab with my GK 700RB-II head. It's crazy loud, articulate, punchy and not all that hi-fi thanks to that Ampeg woolly warm sounding cab. Playing hard rock here, stuff like Led Zep, Van Halen, Hendrix, Jet, Wolfmother etc.
But it's huge and a bit*h to move around.
I'm thinking.
Perhaps it's time to sell it, and get a smaller cab, perhaps 2 cabs.
What combination would you guys use?
410 paired with 212 maybe? I'm open for any suggestions, including the one where you're talking me out of getting rid of 810.
Also, Ampeg is definitely not exclusive. I'm even more open to new brands. I'd love to pair my GK amp with GK cabs, but I've heard they're not all that great unlike their amps.
I really dig Flea's tone, and he was the biggest influence when I just recently switched to GK amp. In fact, I just had my first gig with it yesterday and it was killer! I had to lower my volume several times since my guitarist was crapping his undies from the awesomeness of my loud GK paired with Ampeg 810.
Can I get a combo of 2 cabs to get a nice loud hard rock setting with my amp?

I 'm pushing them 3 different ways. The newest is with a GK MB500 pre out to a CrownDrivercore 1500 power amp. The tone is simply amazing. I also have 2 other pre's that I can use. My speaker combo works great, and is easy enough to transport.
You'll probably get 50 different recommendations here.

Since you mentioned GK, I would heavily consider the 410RBH. Its a super loud cab, with great response. They run about $899 new last I checked, but they often pop up in the used market for around $400 to $600. Good luck. |

And to be honest... lugging around the 810 is easier than the 212 simply because its on wheels and has a towel bar... makes transport super easy! |

Yup, the combo is definitely killer for any venue! Fantastic power and sound.

I still have the head..."wish" I had the cab back.
If you can afford to keep your 810, do it.
Park it out in your garage or at your pratice space.
There'll come a time when only your 810 will cover the gig! Especially at hard rock volume levels.
Pick-up a 410 or 212 for when you want to go light.
As to other cabinets, I'd recommend checking out Avatar's bass cabinets.
Great sounding, top shelf componets, well built, reasonable prices. www.avatarspeakers.com

| | | | Thanks shoot-r, and JimmyM. I think you're right. I would most definitely regret getting rid of my 810 cab. If I do decide to downsize, I should get additional smaller cabs.
I'm checking out Avatar speakers, thanks.

I have owned an 810e and currently own a Berg610, and I cab assure you that the Berg is MUCH easier to schlep and you won't lose any tone or grunt. |

I'll take it over lugging two 410s or 212s any day. GK amps sound as good through these as through an Ampeg 810 and just as loud. |
