Thrash sound from GK amp?

I just bought a new GK Goldline 500 Halfstack. Now that I have it I'm having trouble getting that Megadeth/Metallica bass tone out of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Robert Trujillo gets his thrash sound with effects. An amp alone really isn't going to get the sound you're looking for, no matter what brand. Start looking in to pedals.

Btw, owned that stack before. REALLY GREAT tones out of it, it just wasn't big enough for what I was doing though. You have to give it a chance and play with all the knobs a lot. You'll get there.

I disagree, I think the best thrash tone you're gonna get is from a hot bass with an amp that gets a nice a natural grind. I have the same setup and while I don't play metal I do dial in aggressive tone. I get it with the treble almost dimed, hi mids at about 3 o clock, low mids slightly boosted, and bass slightly cut. I also have the treble on my active P-Bass Deluxe dimed (this bass has a REALLY hot output). I don't use it because I can get all the grind I need for my prog rock trio just by digging into the strings, but the B channel can get really aggressive when you crank the boost on that sucker.

Hope that helps you out.

Boost, boost, and more boost. Try it at around 2 or 3 o'clock. This adds lots of harmonically rich stuff to your tone. It seems subtle at first, like it's only making it louder, but after you play it that way for awhile you'll notice it really does change the sound, IMO for the better. Makes it thicker and 'chewier.'
