Three 2x10's cabs running together, anyone?

Sign in to disble this ad
I suppose that this layout would require an amp that would run at 2 ohms if each cab rated at 8 ohms.

I personally use a pair of 2x10's for my gigs, but I don't recall whether I've ever seen or even heard of anyone doing this without an elaborate amp collection. Seems as though this could be a decent alternative for someone who drives a car that can't swallow a big fat 6x10 cab.

Observations appreciated.

Hence most 610's being 4 ohms

You just need a 2-ohm stable amp.

Stacking a triple 210 cabs vertically would look sick. Provided the ceiling is high enough.

My Carvin R1000 will handle 2 ohms through each (of 2) channels, and yes' I've tried 6 10's, in 3-210 setrup. Not enough low end for me, at least with Carvin cabinets. I played the Carvin head through an SWR 810 cab, and it sounded great, but no way I'm hauling a cab like that around (nor a 610). You definitely need an amp cabable of a 2 ohm load to do that and from what I've experienced, the results from all those cabs wouldn't be worth it. I use a 115 & 210 and have plenty of everything, including space in my Escape for other gear.

my 410 actually consists of three cabs ... but two of them are 110's, 4 ohms each ran in series and then an 8 ohm 210 ... nice stable vertical stack, and yes, also more portable and modular than a 410 would be ...

All of my amps are capable at 2Ω and I too run a pair of 2x10s as you can see in my avatar. They are run one per channel at 4Ω. If I needed more I'd slot in BOTH of my second pair and run at 2Ω per channel.

I've been running a pair of homebrew 112's with DLII2512's for most everything I do lately, carries the room at smaller indoor stuff and carries the stage outdoors and bigger gigs where I have PA support. Once in a while outside I could use just a wee bit more. Considering doing another pair but it seems 3 would be just right. Means I could have 2 for myself and 1 for the drummer or other guitar player over there when we're more spread out.

CHEERS troops!!! Fun-fun-fun for future consideration as I scout for a mildly more competent rig.

I think that I got to chewing over this option (3 cabs) when I saw an ad here in the Amp section. One of our amigos was selling a stack of maybe four 2x10's. That photo made a 3-stack seem halfway reasonable.

Three cab solution

I am running three GS112 cabs now. I have two heads that I take to gigs (one is a backup). So I figured, if I am going to haul it around, I might as well use it.

Here's what I currently have:

Bass guitar --> Radial BigShot ABY --> TFB750A --> GS112x2
.............................................|___> TFB550B --> GS112

I can use either amp/cab combination or both.

I realize this would be overkill for some applications, however, having the additional speaker area is nice. I can EQ each head independently. And, I'm not stressing out my heads, my volume level is lower.

I've used 2 2X12s and 1 2X10; I don't own 3 of the same model of cab. Does make a big sound portable. Reasonable portable anyway, the amp that runs these 3 4 Ohm loads is heavier than the 2X10 and almost the same size.
