The ones I'm looking at are the Kustom KB200 (200 watt + 15" speaker + Piezo horn) and the Marshall MB150 (150 watt + 15" speaker). It will be mainly used in a 3 piece band for small gigs. I'd like it to be fairly loud, as our drummer is, you know, a drummer. The Kustom is $500 AUD, and the Marshall is $700 AUD.
Has anyone had any experience with these amps? Any help would be extremely grateful.

| | | | combo amp I have no experience with those particular amps, but I think a 2-12 combo would be louder than a 1-15.
I've heard lots of good stuff about the GK 2-12 combo. |

Maybe a used one in that price range? oh and I was just joking about throwning up between two combos....I am pretty sure they were half stacks.

| | | | For the money you could definitely do better than the Marshall. I had that combo for a while and I hated it. I constantly struggled to get enough volume. |

I have a Markbass CMD 121H combo now (one 12" with 300w). It sounds as good, if not better than my old 115 Trace Elliot at 200w, but with half the weight.

I think you will be wasting your time and money with both of those combos trying to be heard in the band. The drummer is going to bury those combos with not much effort. Try to find something with 210's, not just a single 15.
In the band setting, the only way I have ever gotten combos to be loud enough: cut the lows severely, boost the midrange heavily, and turn the highs to taste. Also, point the combo towards your ears or get it on top of a speaker/chair. It sounds terrible, but at least people can hear you. |

| | | | I'd have to travel a good distance for a used amp. I found this Marshall MB4210 for $800, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to fork out that much. It has 2 10" speakers and a tweeter

| | | | A 15" speaker has more surface area than two tens, and can move a lot of air. If it is a quality speaker, being driven by clean (lots of watts) signal. I like my Ampeg BA-115HPT, for a combo. Saw a combo on Craigslist the other day that was Ampeg, 500 watts and was a combo-add-on design. I think the combo was a 212 and the extra speaker box was a 15. He wants $1200 for the set. Certainly versatile. |

| | | | hmm... For around 700 bucks you could get an Avatar B212 (4 ohms) + Carvin BX250 micro-head. Now you have 250w of power pumping into a 2x12 that can handle it. |

| | | | OMG!
I thought I was the only one who ever thrown up between a couple of bass amps!
I made the roadie clean it up... |
