So for you seasoned vets, kids like me, and those in between, what do you use when your go-to doesn't go anymore?
Talk about the cool toys and give me ideas in the process.
Disclosure: My SVT-II is still kickin' at about 20 years old but I have no backup for it. Before our summer tour I'll need something. I was thinking Markbass LMII but I'm open to any portable thumpbox. |

IMO - the best bang for the buck at $399

Really thinking hard about a light wieght MB-500 or MB Fusion and letting the keys use the 800RB. That's just equipment I've used at any lengh in the last 30 years. Times I've needed a backup since I left SS Fender and some Peavey's (Peavey bass amps don't like me personally) ZERO. If I had to, I own the PA and could go direct to the mixer. Backups have stayed home since I no longer tour.
Paid my dues the decade + before the SVT and Acoustic were in play....

Seriously, though: I don't like the response as much as with the old tube heads. But it is nice to have something transport-neutral, capable and still under warranty... just in case. (At least until I can spring for those recaps I've always wanted. )

I'm really impressed by GB, and went back for more.
It's a little funny, because technically the Shuttle 6 is a higher end product than the NeoPak, but the NeoPak suits me, so the Shuttle is the backup.

(This was with a notably bad EQ job when I'd first purchased it.) However, do you think a LMII would keep up in a context where an SVT has been pushed to the brink or should I look bigger instead of smaller and lighter? |
