I always thought the AMP had enough power on hand, so I'm thinking about a 550. What can I expect sound wise vs. the AMP? Also, what are the tonal differences between the different T-Funk models? Bigger bottom end on the 750/
There is not a great amount of tonal differences, but if you want to upgrade to a 550B I say do it. The way the economy is these days I have seen many amps lower than usual all over. The bigger bottom thing between the 550B and 750A isnt that big of a deal. I have both and use both. Yes the 750A does have a more open bottom. But the 550B has a tighter bottom that you may like better. The 550B is a very popular amp amoungst TF users.

Well it gets a bit harder every year but I finally found a nice used TFB-550-B amp. I've been using a Genz Benz 9.2 SM the last couple of years but I recently started using the Thunderfunk TFB-420 at church again and was reminded of why I love the TFunk sound so much (and used them for 5 years).

Here's a picture:

Question

Any of you 550-B owners sent your amps in for the model 600 upgrades?
My 550-B doesn't have the gold chip and I thought that the new 600 features (new high voltage 6-transistor power amp, surge and in rush protection, auto-fan thermostats, other updates and value changes.) would be nice to have.

Really debating keeping this thunderfunk 750a. I bought it from guitar center used for $1200 shipped and it is in great shape except the headphone jack does not work. They will get it fixed professionally for free. Since there is a 30 day money back I'm really contemplating what I should do. Is 1200 a good price I won't loose my shirt on if I decide to sell in a year? Headphone jack should be pretty easy fix since these amps are prett straight forward. What do you think?

I've been gigging out with the TFB-420 for a while and took the newly acquired TFB-550-B out this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised at how much the extra ~100 watts enhanced the overall tone.
I guess that I should have remembered that, having owned 4-5 550 models, but overtime I guess I forgot.

While I'm on that subject, I had been using a Genz Benz 9.2 SM for the last 2 years and recently stated back using the Thunderfunk 420 at church and totally fell back in love with it's sound!
It's kind of strange how we can become somewhat bored with a great sounding amp over time and after playing other amps for an extended time return back to the amp that we use to love and fall in love all over again.

I guess that we are fickle creatures. Or at least I am!

Did the same with the db750. I'm on my third one. Get sick of the weight, sell, miss the tone, buy again. This time I have a 751 coming.

The ultimate arsenal is a db750/1 and a thunderfunk.

TFB-575?

Hey folks,

Have had my Thunderfunk amp for many years, now, but only just noticed the model number on the back says TFB575. The 575 is hand-engraved, is that really the model number? Couldn't find any mention of such a model, weird! It has the "switch" and says 500w into 4 ohms, but not the mute button or led, so I always thought it was a 550A.

Cheers,

Justin

Thunderfunk clips

I have some tunes on soundcloud all recorded with my jazz bass and the T-Funk 550 A using the DI out, post EQ, and some tweaking of the tone controls.
the recordings are performed, edited and mastered by me, so please don't be too exigent, I'm a passionate, but not a true soundman.
the songs are simple and belong to a crossover genre between original acoustic folk and a bit of humour and allegorical lyrics about friends and so on, so don't expect fancy playing or singing.
The "album" is called "Un Bianco a natale" (a white man for Christmas)
Hope you enjoy,

Mariano

Jome,
I'm glad to see you back on the Thunderfunk wagon! The 550 I got from you has been gigging ever since I bought it. I use the 550 for all rehearsals and use the 750 for the shows. I still take the 550 for my spare. Great head, hasn't missed a beat!

One of these days, I'm gonna send my heads to Dave to get them upgraded. The problem is, they are doing such a great job, it's hard to justify right now.
