| ThunderFunk TFB750-A - Upgraded I just took delivery on an upgraded Thunderfunk TBF750. I'm going to preface my very brief initial comments by saying I have not taken it to a gig yet. These comments are based purely on my findings in my studio with my Berg AE212 and Xotic basses. Gig comments may be completely different.
The first thing I noticed is how pure and transparent this amplifier is. I typically play with an Analysis Plus "Yellow Oval" instrument cable. When I compare the Yellow Oval to other lesser quality cables I hear a dramatic difference when played through the TF. I don't hear those dramatic differences between those same instrument cables when played through my other heads. It was quite surprising actually.
Some people have described the TF as not having a lot of thump. I don't hear that at all. To my ears this head kicks some serious butt. The amp is seriously loud and the notes have a lot of girth.
Others have commented that the TF seems to lack that "open airy sheen" on the top end. I'm not sure what models they may have heard or what basses and cabs they used with the TF. To my ears I get as much of that top end sheen as I would ever need.
To sum it up the head is quick, clean, articulate, punchy and very authoritative. I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces with my HD410 and then most importantly…..hearing what it sounds like on a gig. |
