Tilt-back cabs - where to you put the head?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ampeg and GK both sell a small cab with tilt-back option. Either would work in a lot of the places I work as they are better than a PA monitor and pretty much out of sight. My question is; where do you put the head? If I'm seated I can place it on the floor, but if I did a gig standing, I wouldn't want it there. I've seen some mic accessories for putting things similar on mic stands (laptops, CD players, etc.) Any thoughts on this? (An example of needing small would be weddings where speakers and cables can be hidden behind flowers and ferns.) Thanks for any input.

This Probly won't help answer your question but I saw a GC salesman step up on an ampeg cab to grab a American deluxe jazz off the wall. It was a tilt back, and it did what it was designed to do, salesman sprained his ankle and fell flat on his face with the jazz.

there was a thread on this a while back - some cool options. if you have a small enough head there are these cool hinges/hooks at Ikea that fold down you can use to keep the head from sliding back here I imagine they would work great!

I would like to try the GK MB500 mini amp with 350 w @ 8 ohm. It weighs only 4 lbs. The GK NEO 210 cab handles 400 w @ 8 ohm so that should make a good match. I'll check the IKEA website.

If the frront rubber feet are big enough, just hang them over the edge of the cab when tilted back, then bring them flush against the edge. You can always get bigger, chunkier feet if the originals are too small. Or, if the cab is rat fur, just get some velcro " dots ' and put them on all 4 feet. Bungee cords work in a pinch, also, but look like crap.

Install a pair of inch high rubber feet on the rear of the cab top so the amp can't slide off. Available at www.speakerhardware.com

I keep my amp is on a stand beside me. Why would I want to turn my back to the audience when I make on-the-fly tweaks?

A variation on the feet bit, if the tilt isn't too severe - remove the front feet entirely.

My Duratex covered cab gets tilted back to about 30 degrees. Both my Markbass F1 and TC Electronic RH450 stick to it without any problems, no gizmos or velcro required.
