tiny heads crashing to th floor

Sign in to disble this ad
so... we've all had the experience where you or someone else catches a foot on your cable and the weight and inertia of the head causes the plug to pull out of the jack of either your bass or the amp. PITA but no harm done.

Then you get a tiny head that weighs 3 pounds and instead of the cable pulling out, the head tumbles to the floor...

How do you all make sure that doesn't happen and your head stays safe? My cab has rat fur so I'm thinking about velcro... any other ideas?

strapping

Some folks use various strapping scenarios. Wireless is really nice till the batteries fail cause you did not replace em.

Run the cable through the carrying handle on the speaker.

This is good practice, even for big heads. If the cable doesn't pull the head down, it will damage the input jack on the head when somebody trips on it.

Ask NoStatic - - He had a Markbass little mark in a Markbass case, alll closed up that got dropped.... broke pretty good.

Were I the guy with one of those tiny GK heads, I'd velco the dog to my cabs.

I got taught that as a young'n. They really should put it in the amp instruction manual.

Leave the head on the floor out of the way, or even (if your cabs has enough bottom clearance) put it under there. If you're the type who fiddles with it in-between sets, leave it under or alongside your pedalboard or monitor so it's right there when you need it.

I wire tie my amp to my cabs handle. Even velcro straps would seem to work. Sort of achieves the same result as the above method.

I do this a lot and it's good advice provided you've got an actual handle somewhere you can wrap your hand (or your cable) around. Puts the force on the whole rig instead of just the jack. With people goofing around with 3,4,5 pound heads nowdays, I don't know why the hell they just don't build them in a combo. These things should've generated a resurgence in highpower, great sounding combo's with extension cab capabilities. After all, headcase and all, what the hell's a handful of pounds going to add when moving from a heavy magnet to a neo speaker....nothing. Removable head from the combo to have versatility, etc......it's a no brainer.

Kinda like Rocky Mountain jeans, it could be like opening a can of biscuits.....and we need a clearer shot of the face because that is up in the air.

I agree. I'd go with a lightweight combo if I wasn't doing the DIY speaker thing.

LM III/BM III

man I'll tell ya I had this same exact problem but I fixed it. I was always having to carry around my LM and my BM (for backup) and I could just toss the BM in the back of the truck like always, but the LM liked to sit inside like a real lady. So one day I was thinking, I could move some of the extra eq stuff I don't really use in the BM and made room for the LM! Now they can sit right in the back like always, and also sit up high at gigs without worry of slipping and falling. Plus, when the little lady gets tired and quits for the night, I just fire up the BM and its all good...

I've thought about airhead cabs and stuff but I don't do it. I guess because I like the mixing/matching of stuff and the ability to easily switch out amps etc. But, if I was looking for a easy carry for small gigs and bring the ext. cab for larger ones, and considering the small size/light weight of these things that would be the answer. Considering you could easily build a headcase on top the amp for one of these little things and mount it over to one side, that'd leave a void big enough to turn into a little storage space, big enough for a pedal or 2 or for cables/tuner, etc.
