Could I take the guts out of an old Peavey TKO 80, make a nice little cabinet for it and use it as a pre-amp for a Fender Rumble 100??

First of all, why would you want to?

Secondly, yes you can if you have the skills

Wouldn't that up the power for the Fender Rumble? Plus I tried to sell the Peavey to Guitar Center and they said it's only worth $25, so I was just brainstorming on ways to utilize it and make my Rumble more powerful.

Can't see how it would do that. Sell it on your own... Craig's list should get you $50-100...

Sell em both and get a new one... that will be more powerful.

I think you're likely setting yourself up for electrocution and blowing up the other amp also in the process.

Sell both, buy 1 if you need more.

2 things.. I mean 3
1-why not just pick up an MXR M80.. would do more for you.

2-you "could" do it

3-don't sell gear to guitar center.

+1 to all these replies. It's a bad idea, and it won't get you any more power. Sell both amps on CL, and buy a bigger amp. Also, if it's volume you want, it's more speakers you need.

If you are looking to up the power why don't you run the preamp out of the Rumble to the power amp in of the TKO and use both of them. This should make the Rumble's eq section the master, double your speaker area and add about 75 watts to your output. Plus, buying 1 patch cord is a great deal less expensive than trying to recase the head section of the TKO.

If do try to use the TKO as a preamp you would not be gaining power. You would not be using its poweramp section, just its preamp section. If you tried to use its poweramp section you would almost definitely destroy the Rumble.

Thanks for the input. I really like that MXR M80 but don't have extra money right now.
I will stay away from GC when selling gear.
I'm going to try bassmanrocke's suggestion.
When the time comes I really want to get the Markbass CMD 102P. But, until then I'll gut it out with what I have.
