TL606 for Guitar and Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I am just about to build a TL606 cabinet that will be used for Bass and hopefully guitar. I managed to get my hands on a NOS EVM15L. Does anyone have experience with this cab from a guitar point of view?

Not with the 15 but the 12 version loaded with K120 JBLs works really well.

Didn't have the L have the EVM15B and guitards always seem to like it just fine so long as they don't want searing highs.

I built several of these cabs over the years for myself and friends on a low budget. Some were slapped together really quick out of cheap 3/4 ply with a skilsaw and a little sloppy, but nothing a belt sander and a little bondo couldn't remedy. The last two I built in a professional carpenter shop back in 1988. I've been using them since for things from pa, guitar, bass, and an old stereo. For years they were loaded with a Peavey Scorpion 15 and an EVM15L. In comparasin, I really liked the Peavey speaker's sound better for bass. Before I built these, I built a double cab with the 15 side to specs, and added enough cab width for a 12 Celestion greenback. I used no insulation for the 12. The two speakers were independent of each other. Huge cab, with a huge, deep sound through my small box plexi with a Strat. This was "MY" guitar sound I liked since I was 18, and I still like the combination of a 15 and 12. I still will use the 15" cabs playing in stereo with a pair of Marshal 4010 combo 112's for guitar when not using a 412 and head.
Last year I pulled the Peavey and EV speakers and added Kappalite's.
Been using the Kappalites for about a year now, but just yesterday I compared them to a Bergantino AE410.
The Berg won me over big time and I bought it.

I played a cheap strat copy through an SVT into my Diesel 2x15 with 15Ls. It sounded fantastic! I ended up selling the cab to a guy who is using it for both bass and guitar. The downside of it for guitar is that it weighs over 100 lbs and most guitarists really don't need more than a single 15 or maybe two 12s.

I am a guitarist, but I am moving to the dark side, low side... Bass side. I sold a little 1X12 cube I had because it sounded like doggy doo doo for bass and not great for guitar either. I am hoping to have one extension cab that can cover both well.

Yes. They sound freakin' awesome used as a guitar cab.

I've played several guitars (Tele, Strat, SG, Les Paul, Peavey) with numerous amps (Mesa, Carvin, Fender, Peavey, Marshall), through the TL606 with the EVM 15L and I can't say enough good things about using these cabs for guitar. Two of my guitarist buddies have been badgering me to sell them one of my TL606's but I won't.

The SG with the Mesa/Boogie F-50 head sounds particularly awe-worthy with this cab.

The 15L makes a great sounding guitar speaker, it's not a bad bass speaker either unless you demand a lot of volume out of it (meaning putting a good deal of power into it). Sounds good at lower power/volume. If there ever was a real "dual-purpose speaker" the 15L may be it but you'd still need 2 of them on bass to have a chance in hell of keeping up with what a guitar can do with 1 of them. That's what volume knobs are for.

I am currently building a Sunn 200s clone to go along with the cabinet. I think it will be a good match. I also have a 63 Bassman head the will work nicely.

EVM-15L

How did this turn out? Do you have dimensions or plans for an EVM-15L/ TS606? I'd like to try this.

yeah, how DID this turn out?

I'm also restoring a Sunn 200s and have a TL-606 I built, that I'm giving to a friend to use with both guitar and bass.
