Tone Hammer pedal with power amp: Where do you place yours ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm going to be getting one of these pedals soon, and am going to try it with my QSC PLX 1202 power amp. I want to avoid placing it on the floor, but somehow incorporate into my rack, which is a 4 space. I initially thought I would just place it on top of the QSC, but then I noticed that, since the in/out jacks are on the same side, it would position them to the rear. Not bad for the power amp connection, but kind of a pita for the bass cable. So, I was wondering if any of you guys who use the TH pedal this way, have come up with some creative ways of placing it in the rack ? Photos would be great, if you can. Thanks.

Not sure why you'd want in the rack. Wouldn't that make it pita to tweek the settings.

I use the Sansamp DI and let sit on top of the amp. Then pack it up like my other effect boxes...

Well, it's a 4 space rack with just a 2 space power amp, so there is room to just put it on top of the amp, inside the rack. seems like it might slide around if I put it on top of the rack.

I'd suggest getting a 2-space rack and velcro-mounting the TH to the inside of the back lid.

I have a similar issue with my PA amplifier.

I have a small 12 input mixer I will be using in conjunction with my 1u poweramp and 1u graphic eq. I think what I am going to do is build a 3u rack (super easy to do) and will cut a "window" out of the top panel so I have access to the mixer which will be velcroed to the top of the 1u graphic eq. Thats the rough idea of it anyhow.

I think you could do something similar if so inclined. Build a 3u rack (2u for the poweramp and 1u or so for the TH) and cut out a window to allow access to the TH. I prefer keeping all my cables in the rack as much as possible to minimize hassles.

Anyway, just a thought.

You could use a rack drawer.

I've used mine with a power amp before in a 2 space rack. I just set the TH pedal on top of the rack. Worked great.

That would be my suggestion. It would be safe, you could slide the drawer out at the gig to make adjustments and connections. Plus easy transport.

Not a bad idea.

Don't quite get this, Bongo. If it was velcroed to the back lid, where would the lid be placed on the gig ? thanks for all the suggestions everybody. I guess I'll just have to muck about with it once I get it.

FWIW there are rack cases you can buy that have a lid designed exactly for this purpose already. You would just need rack ears for your mini-mixer, to attach it to the rails in the lid.

You could put it on top of the rack, or on the floor.
