That is absolutely true. I have an SVT II non-pro, and if I use a different preamp and bypass the Ampeg pre, it sounds like a much cleaner, clearer tube amp. The grind of Ampeg is in the pre. Surprised me when I found this, but thats how it is. It's really great actually, because SVT II amps can be used as a slave and take on the personality of what is fed into it.

I hear the VT Bass pedal can produce an Ampeg-type tone. Thought about adding one to my Markbass just for that reason, not that the Ampeg tone is all that I'm seeking.

Anyone seeking a totally different tone?

(Hey, after lunch today I must go on the road for a couple of days with no Internet, incase anyone wonders what happened to me).
