Is It Too Much To Ask To Remember the Power Cord?

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry, mini-rant...

Over the years I have purchased quite a few heads and combos. I have to guess that in over half of the transactions, the person I purchased from neglects to include the power cord when they ship.

I know it can be hard to remember. I know I've personally had to re-open numerous boxes I just spent 20 minutes packing because after it's all sealed, I see the power cord lying over on the bench...but I include it.

I know the power cords are pretty universal and you can get them anywhere...but that's not the point. Try to remember!

If I don't have them included in the ad then I don't ship them, if I do and I forget then box opening happens.

Bought an F500 last week used on ebay. Arrived without a power cord. Why would you buy an amp if it doesn't arrive with everything to play? If there's no power cord... say "no power cord" in the posting. IMHO.

Bitched my way to a $5 refund.

If I were King, all bass amps would come w/power cords, regardless of private vs professional sale. Failure to do so or disclose the absence thereof would result in a caning for first offense, ramping up to death at the third strike.

If you are like me and have the usual amount of GAS, you have these IEC cables all over the place. I have a box of them from other heads, computer stuff, etc. When I sell heads or other electronic stuff, I always ask if the buyer wants an IEC cable included. Most of the time they say , " No ! I've got a whole box of these things ! "

You sell a unit that is expected to be fully operational upon arrival. Include the power cable ! It came with one when the unit was purchased new in the store, then why not provide it on the resale?
If Buyer requests "no cable" then fine.
Speaker cables OTOH well most manufacturers don't include those whether it's Pro Audio or otherwise , So there is the trend there.

Well, that's a little bit different. What strings one uses and likes is pretty subjective, while IEC cables can be used for just about any device that requires them. Long story short, I did buy a used bass without strings, mainly because I did'nt want the LaBella flats that were on them. Now, if you are talking about buying new, well , yes, you should get a cable. But used ? Not a deal breaker for me.

I shipped out a couple amps once and forgot the power cords. As soon as I realized it, I sent them separately. At this point I couldn't care less about getting them, though. I've got so many power cords now, they're coming out of my ass.

I don't have any extras. The go as quickly as they come. I lend them to other band members never to be seen again.

I once bought two compressor units on ebay and got a grand total of zero power cords...I opted for neutral feedback after I got into an argument with the seller.

Yes, they're mostly interchangeable, and detachable, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't include a something that's integral to a device's functioning when you sell it.

It happened to me too and when I mentioned it he went out of his way to send it to me. I'd say we were both pretty cool about it. I had one I was able to use until it got here so it wasn't that big of a deal. Mistakes happen... Though, since I didn't realize it happens often, I may include a quick note about not forgetting the power cord just in case next time...

The dude I bought from (parting out a church system, none the less) was NOT friendly or cool about it. Actually got in my face and acted like I was being completely unreasonable once both units showed up without cords and I emailed him.

Which I found odd since I've bought loads of things on eBay and never had anyone ship without a power cord and certainly not have anyone act like I was being a jerk for wanting to plug the unit in. He even said that everyone has a box full of them, like he does...to which I was thinking...well, that's why you have a box of them. You're selling units and keeping all the cords.

If it is a specialist power lead, like a vintage amp bulgin, I say if its included or not. I don't include IECs by default, because it is a spikey lumpy thing (bearing in mind UK plug) that makes packing awkward. Plus there is choices between cables, length and fuse rating, the big amps fuse 3amp cables sometimes (again, UK with fuse in the plug) but run cheerfully on them once on.
