top or bottom???

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking into getting a Carvin B2000 head with a 6x10(Carvin 2x10/4x10 config.). I'm looking to get the most wattage out of the head(2ohm load) without going with two 4x10's, so I'm curious bout one thing. Would the 2x10(top) sound louder since it takes less wattage to pump it, or would the 4x10(bottom) sound louder since it would wanna suck the wattage out of the head more?

Getting the most wattage out of a massively high powered head by going to 2ohms is a losing game... you will be pushing the head at its most extreme limit, and the drivers won't be able to handle the extra wattage anyway.

When combining a 410 and a 210, you want to think about evenly distributing power to the drivers, not the cabs. So, if you get a 4ohm 410 and an 8ohm 210, then your head will be running at an impedance of 2.67 ohms.... so pumping a lot of watts but not quite down at that 2ohm minimum, and each of the 10" drivers will be getting approximately the same amount of power.

This would be, in effect, a modular 610. The cool thing is that you will have three really nice rigs, each running at relatively appropriate power levels.... for small gigs, the 8ohm 210, for most gigs, the 4ohm 410, and for the mega momo gigs, the 2.67 '610'.

Perfect!

Assuming the cabs are of equal ohm ratings they would each see equal power. In the 410 there are 4 speakers to divide that power between, in the 210, each speaker would be working twice as hard because there are 2 of them getting the same power. The ideal thing would be to get a 4ohm 410 and an 8ohm 210. Either would work fine by themselves and when you stacked them, all 6 speakers would be seeing roughly equal power and all working together as one unit. That results in a total load of 2.67ohms. Supposed to be safe with that head.
