Trace Elliot 1210 200W Series 6 input issue

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I own an old Trace Elliot 1210 200W Series 6, 12 bands (80's ?) that I bought to a friend a long time ago.

Since a few days, there's a problem with the input (either passive or active) : signal is too weak and I have to turn the gain almost to its maximum to have the "OK" led to turn green

=> the input signal is too weak.

1) tried several cables => same problem
2) I replaced the battery of my bass => same problem
3) when I hit the amp on its head => sometimes it's worse
4) I have to turn the gain knob to its maximum to "unblock" something and then sound is back (sort of violent internal electric shock...)

It's becoming worse over time.

I recently bought a BOSS multi-effects unit (GT-10B) and I use its XLR output to connect it to the passive plug of the amp. Actually, I wonder if it was a good idea to plug that XLR output into the amp...Maybe, it's nothing bad, I don't know...

I've already had an transfo issue with that amp but it has been replaced and it has worked for years without any problem except that the connection between the amp and the speakers has to be properly done otherwise => hot hot hot behind and the sound disappears!...When they say "Min. 4 Ohms" do it !

Any similar issue for somebody here ?

The XLR out on the effects unit is line level, way too hot for a bass amps input. But as to the amp, sounds like you need to take it to the amp doctor.

It's strange, the amp works , well, fine...

If I don't focus on that "OK" led, everything works fine (I still can make my house to collapse :-) ) and, actually, the led turns to green sooner if I boost the bass and medium on my bass...A bit obvious though...

But I won't use that XLR ouptut anymore (it was just to try) and I'll follow your advice.

I knock on wood and I hope I didn't make an unrecoverable mess of that imput...

Thanks RickenBoogie.
