Trace Elliot 7215, is it worth it?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and please don't hate on me too much. I'm a guitarist who is learning to play bass properly, partly due to the lack of good bass players, partly due to some unknown force drawing me to discover the joys of holding down the bottom end.

I've been offered a Trace Elliot 7215 for AU$500. I'm not certain on the actual wattage as everything I've been able to find so far says that they are 100 watt, but that seems to be for a 715. The transformer in the power section is labelled AH200L as opposed to AH100, which is what the power supply is meant to be in these. It also has an extra speaker out will go down to 4 ohms. It has the GP7 preamp and a celestion 250 watt truvox speaker in it.

Anyways, my question is A, is this over priced? B would I be better off with this or a newer combo like one of the Warwick Blue series. I'm playing an Ibanez ATK through it and am looking at using for coffee shop type of situations and some church type gigs where there will be sound reinforcement.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

I used to own one. It was a great amp and I sort of wish I still had it. But I could never carry the thing now. It was 200W combo; 300W with 8ohm extension cab (I had a Trace 2x10 I used for larger stages). Cleanest amp I ever owned and had about the best boom/watt as well. It will carry a good sized room with no problem. I can't say anything on the money side of it as I have no clue what new amps are going for in that market. If the price is reasonable, it would definitely be worth a good look.

Hey SmittyG, thanks for the info. It cleared up a few things for me. I'm still curious how it would compare to say an Eden Nemesis combos or Ashdown rigs. Also, would you be better off with say a small head and separate cab? Any pros or cons?
