Trace Elliot AH-500 GP 11 - Cabinet Suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there, I'm Basti from Germany.. just registered here at talkbass.com for some questions that could not be answered in any of my regular forums

I bought on eBay a Trace Elliot AH-500 GP11 (not exactly sure what series... its quite modded, snake skin and so on but looks older... I'd say at most MK IV) with working blacklight

I have a older, very very worn, Trace Elliot 410 at home which handles 300 Watts at 8 Ohms. (Sounds damn fine!)
The second cab (which I just bought) is an older Peavey BX 115, with Black Widow Speakers, that handles 700 Watts (program) at 8 ohms.

My question now is... the Trace has 2 Poweramps putting out each 250 Watts at 4 ohms.

So would it be the better suggestion to put one cabinet at each power amp, with some lost wattage... or put both cabs at one poweramp, putting out the full wattage ?

I ask because i read something about bi-amping possibility, but i am not quite sure, how it'll work.

Regards..

Rat.

Welcome to TalkBass!

You will be better off if you connect each speaker to its own power amp section. It will generate a bit more power, put less strainon the amp and it will give you more control over the rig.

I even believe that you have cross over in that Trace Elliot head? In that case you could try to send the lows (lets say below 100 Hz) to the 15" and the mid/high (over 100Hz) to the 410.
Some of the older Trace Elliot cabs are sealed and do not produce much real lows anyway.

Feel free to experiment - you might find interesting setups that will improve your sound.

As i have another AH250 GP11 at home..
What would you suggest for rehearsal room an medium size gig usage?

As the 500 is basically a double 250..
