Trace elliot GP12 SMX issue

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a Trace elliot GP12 SMX pre amp....
Unfortunatly it makes my Eden WT800 run extremely HOT; and
it wont work at all with my SWR working mans 4004(400watts)

So... where should i go from here? Has any one had this issue with other preamps? or is this pre amp wiggy? Or am i simply tryin to put way to much wattage into this thing...
TE pre amp 250W@8 ohms 500W RMS

Eden WT-800 260ishWatts @8 ohm
SWR 4004 260ish@8 ohm

Thanks for your replys

I don't think that Trace is a preamp, but rather a bass head. No preamp has 500 watts output. It sounds to me like you're trying to run a bass head INTO another bass head, which is bad. Please clarify, and explain what it is you're trying to do.

Not 100% sure but I thought it came in both a power amp configuration (AH250) and as a free-standing preamp. Some pics and/or clarification from the OP will resolve that issue.

I resolved the issue last night... Eden had originally installed their fans blowing hot air out of the head unit... Instead of cool air in and more hot air out of the vents in the shell.(Fan Flip!) Furthermore I was able to hook the TE and the Eden up without too many problems. But my 4x10 and 18 inch subwoofer don't sound so much like the eden but a Frankenstein TraceEden preshape!(Pretty fun)The SWR however I have not looked at... Because I despise that amp(post fender)

Thanks again for replys!

While bantering about my success I forgot to not on the trace pre amp... As I stated above its a GP12SMX pre amplifier bass managment system. It comes with 2 pre shapes, a graphic EQ(12 Band) Led indicators, adjustable solid state and tube sound, Low compressor, high compressor, variable EQ. Adjuster, mute, tuner outs, Di outs, EQ disengage... And a ton more, its definatly a pre amp...My 10's sound soo killer now!(super mean growl). definatly worth the 360 bucks I paid for the 1048TE cab, korg tuner, TE preamp, Rackrider pwr conditioner, and SKB case
