Trace Elliot tube/valve upgrade?

Hey guys, i bought a '94 trace gp12smx a while ago off of a friend whos had it from new. I love the sound, but im just not feeling the difference in solid state and valve setting. Am i crazy or should i look to replace the preamp tube?

definitely maybe. some pres respond a lot, some don't respond at all.
