Trace Elliot V-type Head - in need of repair

Sign in to disble this ad
I posted to an old topic earlier today, but thought I would start a new thread that would be more specific.

I have one of the hybrid 300w heads and I used it for 2-3 months regularly with no issues. Came to switch it on at a rehearsal and it had fused. Replaced the fuse and it blew straight away. Ive taken it to a local tube amp repair guy who has been quite helpful.

He has told me that the amp can be fixed, but the problem is likely to occur again. Apparently there is a whole new replacement power section for these amps available, but even that wont solve the underlying issue (according to my repair guy that is, unfortunately my knowledge of amps is very basic)

Has anyone else had a similar problem? or know of any common faults with the bipolar power sections in these amps?

another forum member asked me to post some photo's of inside the chassis so I have taken a couple and hosted them here: -

There was, at one time, a replacement power board for the "Bear" PCB. These are no longer available from British Audio Service. That leaves you replacing the output devices. You'll need two of each 2SC4468 and 2SA1695. Easily available from MCM Electronics.
