Trace Elliot V4 + which 4x10 cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I hope some of you bass experts can help me make my choice of cab.

I recently purchased a Trace Elliot V4 all tube head , 220 w. Now I need a cab to this baby, and must be 4x10. Why? because I really don´t want to break my back with a 8x10 cab and I believe that a 2x10 is little in the less power side.

So this are my alternatives:

Aguilar DB410
Bergantino
Trace Elliot
Orange Isobaric 4x10.

I really like the reviews of the Aguilar, but sadly I cannot test one where I live (Oslo, Norway). So, I hope some of you guys can tell me about their experience with this cab or with some of the cab in the above list or other brands if posible.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers.

I play my Trace V4 through two cabs a Trace 2x10 and a 1x15. I like the sound I get and it's easier to move than my 4x10. If I want an almost 4x10 sound I take 2-2x10s out.

I would suggest taking it and playing it through whatever cabs you can.

Thanks,
I will see with which cabs I cab test my v4 head. But there is a guy selling a used ampeg 4x10 I think it is the classic. You cannot go wrong with ampeg, can you?

I have an Aggie DB410, and it pairs very nicely with my Ampeg V-4B. The tight low end and mid-forward nature of the cab make it a good one for tube heads, IMO, as they often have a pretty "loose" low end. It's not light, almost 100 lbs.

If it's the Ampeg 410HLF, I would actually avoid using it with a tube head for the reasons above. That cab puts out a ton of low end; you could end up with a boomy rig. OTOH, if the cab in question is the Ampeg 410HE, that's a very different, sealed cab and might actually go well with your amp.

Two 1x15 cabs.

Or an Ampeg 410HE with the horn turned off. Or a Mesa 410.

You can go wrong with any brand if the end result is not what you're looking for.

IMO a tube head begs for an 810 combo, but seen that portability is an issue, you can go wrong with a trace 1518C and a 1028

Good info people!.
I will check the ampeg cab I talked about next week and I will keep in mind the 1048h from trace elliot as well.
And I have been reading a lot about avatar cabs and their price is so good that it seems almost unreal! And the reviews are quite good. Any experiences with a tube head and avatar 4x10 cabs?

I found the cab!!

Hi folks,

I found the cab for my V4 head!, but I can find any information for this cab in the web, As you see it is a 1048 no horn Trace Elliot 4x10 cab. The owner said that it 300 w 8 ohm and weights 40 kg!!!. I wanted to find the owners manual or some sort of specs for this cab in the web, but it seems that this is not available.

The cab is still in the owner´s hands so I cannot open it to see a more specific info about the cab.

Can somebody illuminate me with some experiences about this cab?

Thanks.

Hey that's a great cab! i just recently quit giging with a 1048 and an 1153 (1x15 )cab. I only stopped using them cause i went lightweight....that rig has served me well for about 5 years of gigging with and without PA support, so i pushed them a bit. If they are the original drivers, they are Celestion kevlar reinforced 10s and from my experience sound great and are pretty reliable...did i say i pushed them a bit..HARD! lol! Still keep some Trace gear around and love it! Can't go wrong with that cab if the price is right...get another or a 15 to go with it and it will do about anything you need it to
