Personally, I think Trace has had a lot of good stuff in the past and there is definitely room for more in that vein. Choice, good. |

I like Trace's product but personally like the 1001 a lot.

Greenboy was too modest to suggest this, but unless you have your GK parked on top of a fEarful cab, haven't heard everything it will do for you. I'd suggest a 15/6/1. With a tweeter you can run off the GK's biamp circuit, you can fully exploit the GK's potential.
When I hooked up the fEarful for the first time, it was like getting a new amp. There are lows you haven't felt and highs out the wazzo. It's all in there, and the more you push it the better it sounds. I'm not saying its perfect, it could be warmer at low volume, but there a pedals that will fix that.
You don't really say what you think the Trace is going to do that the GK doesn't.
I'd be looking at cabs.
As always: IMO, YMMV and all that.

Its always been a trooper and always sounds great! My SVT3PRO sounds great but lacks the headroom PUNCH I get with my 1001RB. Ive bought and sold countless gear, my 1001RB has always stayed my #1 head. Just my .10
Ive never played a Trace so I cant comment there.

| | | | Thanks for the reply’s guys
I agree with most of the comments above, the GK100rb is a great head. I tried a TE a few years back and it seemed to have a bigger, warmer & punchier sound without being louder.

I had an older model Trace Ah 600-12 a few years back - I have to say, it definitely was warmer, but more than that it was MUDDY. Without using the 'Signature Trace Circuitry' setting (or whatever it is...) it was very muddy - then when using the Trace setting, it was way too scooped and transparent.
I have always been happy with GK gear - since selling the Trace, I have used a 700rbII, a 2001rbII and an '86 800rb (my FAVOURITE).
By all means, if the Trace is for you, go with it! But my opinion of the AH-600 12 is that it's too muddy/too scooped and not loud enough to get a distinct bass character across.
Thanks! JOHN |

As a former '72 MGB servant, I normally would agree... but my Ashdown has been *nails* for 11 years now. Not a glitch, and it has been used and abused.
What *I'd* like to know is Just how "Trace "Elliot" is the new Trace Elliot?? You know, like Sunn / Acoustic / etc...etc... A name doesn't mean much without a real company behind it.
