TBers ... I need advice...
I play an Ampeg PF-500 through my Ampeg 410HLF Classic (see videos here Ampeg PF-500 Test Drive - YouTube and here ROCK BOX at Kellerstock 2011 - YouTube). Pretty happy with it. However, I have a chance to trade in my 410 get a 610HLF new for dirt cheap.
Please give me your thoughts about if this is a good idea or a bad idea. Other than it being heavier and cooler looking (honestly one of the reasons I am even considering it), is there a sonic plus or minus to it?
The deal would go down tomorrow, so please gimme comments asap.
You all rock - but you knew that! |

The 610 has more oomph. |

| | Sometimes it's one more note than what was needed! | | | | | More speakers equal the movement of more air. Though I would rather have another 4X10 so I don't have to lug around a bigger, heavier cab and I have the choice between 1 or 2 cabs at a gig. If the 6X10 is a steal andf your back is still in good shape go for it. It's not like you're downgrading your rig.

Easier to move, louder & will get your bass sound up closer to yr ears.
All good things imo.
I'd go for it, now!

It stays with the PA rig / trailer, rolls easily via the tilt-back design, and pretty much has the same stage footprint as the 4 X 10. I'm also 6' 4" so it's nice having the amp rack within tweaking distance.
Do it!

I own the 610 and (1) it's really not THAT much bigger than the 410 (it's taller, but actually skinnier than the 410) and (2) it's 3 times easier to move/haul than the 410.
I'm nearing 60 and I have no trouble whatsoever tilting it onto the tailgate of my truck and guiding into the bed. Actually quite easy. However, when loading in/out with the band we all move the gear; takes no effort at all with 2 people.
The couple of times that I have had to move a 410, it was excruciating.....I'm a little over 6'1" and the 410 was so low to the floor I literally had to bend over to move it around. Not particularly comfortable.
Hope this helps a little in your decision!!

Comments about which one is "better" are always subjective. What you like, I may not and vice versa.
Quite frankly, I'm a little surprised that the "Berg's are BETTER!!" crowd haven't cropped up yet.....they are sure to come.
Besides, to be completely honest here, ANYONE that would buy a cab based solely on opinions here on talkbass (without personally playing as many options as possible) should be severely beaten about the head and shoulders....
