Trading 4x10 for 1x12?!?!?!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey fellas.....i have a GK Neo 4x10/MB2-500 rig and i use with an Aguilar Tone Hammer as my main preamp through the effects send and a Marcus Miller Jazz Bass. While i like the 4x10, lately i don't seem to like the sound i'm getting from it. i love Aguilar gear and wanted to trade up for a GS112(regrettably sold my Aggies) instead, then add another one later. i get a clean sound from the Neo, and mids that drives the band, but i don't feel i get enough punch from the speakers, or sizzle from the tweeter. i have a video from some time ago using this setup. Tell me what you think. Should i keep it, or trade it???

Edit: Wear headphones while watching video...i play with a hard-hitting drummer...lol

Thought you sounded great. But if you don't like it, you have to do what you have to do.

They are so mid scooped you'll lose the punch you have. You're getting less cone area with two 12"s, I'd say you'll never keep up with that drummer. One GS112 and you'll be inaudible.
Blunt, yea, cause you sound good. Work on your eq. for a while instead of spending $.
You may have to diminish some freq. to bring out what you want instead of boosting. Remember gig tone and practice tone can be quite different.

Thanks fellas!!! Chadds you're right about that....i miss the bigger sound i used to get from 12's. i was also thinking of changing the stock MM preamp to an Aguilar OBP-1 which should help.

I used that pre then went to the OPB-3 for it's mid controls. Again there's your punch.
