Traynor dynabass 400

I took a big step (for me) and financed a new head. I had a bit of worry in tying myself to a contract but after using this head with the band a few times it was well worth it.

I felt like i needed a bit more power then my GK 400rb and had my eyes on a 700rb but after trying out the amps at a local music store the Traynor just nailed the sound I was looking for.

I've always been a fan of Traynor/Yorkville gear as I'm Canadian and Traynor stuff is more common then mosquitoes here in NS, So I've used a fair share of their product line at one point or another.

I'm currently running the head through an older Yorkville 4x10b and sometimes an added 1x15 (although I only really needed the 15 with the gk) and it sounds awesome with my Mim P.

The ONLY problem I have with this amp is the distortion channel. It sounds very off, but with the preamp tube I don't even bother to use distortion or od anymore. Just crank the gain a bit to the point were its just about to break up, bliss.

Any other thoughts on this amp? How does it sound through other cabs? I"m thinking of getting an Ampeg 6x10, and I'm curious if anyone has tried that combo.
Mostly I just had to gush about my new baby.

I love Traynor gear. Because of my financial situation, I had to sell my Carvin BX500 head and my Shroeder 1210L cab (which hasn't sold yet) and I got myself a DB300 with the 12" Celestion with a financing plan. It's the only way I can still keep an amp without going under. I had a huge deal for it, being used but still under warranty. I had one before, brought it back for a cheaper amp and I came back to it. It is a great amp. The 400 head must be really killing!

I've tried the DynaBass 800H head - the 400's big brother - out a number of times during my amp shopping experiences, and I absolutely love it. I've been able to dial up a variety of fantastic tones out of it with ease. I just wish it was lighter! I had to sell my old amp because of weight, and so it would not make much sense to get something other than a micro (although the lightweight Traynor cabs are fabulous). If weight was not an issue, I'd be all over a DynaBass head like white on rice.

I have the older Yorkville branded version of that head. I've played it through multiple cab combos with no issues. I really love that amp.
I used to use the tube drive more, but it was a bit muddy. I now have a VT Bass in front of it & running through a Yorkie 1x15 and am very happy with my tone these days.
Good luck.
