Traynor Dynabass/Ipod connection

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks,

I'm new here. Please pardon my ignorance, but I have a question-perhaps a few- regarding the inputs on my Traynor Dynabass 200T. I've read some threads regarding the connection of an ipod to a bass amp, but they don't quite answer the question of my particular amp-or mabe they do. Anyway, as I've mentioned, I have a Dynabass 200T. There are inputs for both passive and active instuments. I'm using a Jazz and I know the stock pickups are passive so naturally I know that the passive input is the one to connect to.

However, I want to use the amp as a speaker and connect my ipod to the amp using 1/8 to 1/4 connector cable. Though using the phones input disables the speaker so that's not an option. Considering the damage I may/may not do to the amp/ipod, which is the better input to use? I would think(and I know little about electronics) that considering that the active input is for signal carrying devices like hot/active pickups, that the ipod-which carries a signal- should be plugged into the active input?

My other option would be using my Sansom S-Mix 5-channel mixer - which has an RCA stereo in/output. Again, the question is which input to go to on the amp. Any advice would be welcome.

Thank you.

Do not use an 1/8" to 1/4" adapter. You need a stereo 1/8" to twin RCA cable and use your mixer. Shorting the Ipods L and R outputs is tantamount to shorting the speaker outs of a stereo amp together. That's simply not a good idea.

Thanks for the info,

Should I then go from the 1/4 output on the mixer to the 1/4 input on the amp? And to which input - the passive or active? Also- I don't know if you're familiar with the mixer- there's an xlr connection on the back. I don't know if it's input or output. There's also an xlr output on the amp (which acts as a DI conduit). Is there a way I could use that connection?

Thanks again
