| | | | I tried out a Y300 a couple of weeks ago..It was a in a fairly tough room soundwise, but it was a good amp.I found it to have a fairly neutral sound, but it was a good fat sound with a lot of muscle(I had to watch my speakers)...I like the weight of the amp as well....I was tring to buy one recently, but at $1500 with taxes,it was way too steep for me at this point. |

My experience with their service dept has been exemplary.

tried it out at my gig Friday night, and there was some pretty intense noise that would raise and lower only when I adjusted the volume knob. It is unacceptable after spending so much on a head, and how could they send it back out when it isn't in perfect working condition? I wanted so much to like this head, in fact I loved it for my first six gigs, now I can't trust this thing....It sure is something paying 1300+ for a head and not being able to to trust it....I have been without it more than I have been with it for the past few months.
Yorkville/Traynor CS wasn't nearly as helpful as all the stories I have heard on here...I had to be extremely persistent to get them to ship it without me paying for it....I am fighting to get a replacement or my money back now, hard telling what will happen.
I have never been so frustrated with a piece of music equipment in my life!
Say a prayer to the bass gods for me guys! | |

| | | | I have just got say I acquired one of these Canadian gems last week and have been blown away by it.
Granted, I'm coming from a solid state Ampeg SVT 1000 and am incredibly blown away by the presence and push the tubes in this thing provide, so I'm raving a little. However, even compared to a few SVT classics (which vary make to make I'm sure) I've got to gig with on a rare occasion, this thing has a glorious and overall excellent frequency response across the spectrum. Just massive low end (drives low A notes extremely nicely, especially when cranked) with warm, present mids and unobtrusive but satisfying high end (playing from a cab sans horn). She's a freakin dream come true for this guy. Bonus? It sounds really good even at lower volumes (gain 6, master 4; master 5, gain 3, etc) and retains a strong push over all save for some of the lowest frequencies (notes below B). 51 lbs of solid gold IMHO.

True! I've gotta use it more for low volume stuff. I'm usually too lazy & take something smaller, but am gonna start taking it for smaller stuff. It *does* sound great at low volumes.
I've also not used it at 8 ohms but now I've an 8 ohm sealed 1x15" that'll handle some power, I must try the YBA300 into it.

+1 on the congrats to 'truenorth'!
Hey rodl2005.... hope you weren't too close to getting singed.
Since I got a Studio Slips gig bag I've been using the YBA300 for smaller gigs with one Traynor TC115. It does sound rich at lower volumes too.

Rezdog | Ha yeah, our house is probly 5 miles from the closest part of the fire that swept thru the Tasman & Forrestier Peninsulas
It was certainly looking spectacular at night.
Our bush here explodes so there sure ain't a way to stop one's path.
42° C (about 115° F) that day, 10% humidity & 50kmh winds
Makes a bad cocktail.
I've moved my treasured items away for the whole summer.
A sunset a few days after the worst days (Fri 4th & Sat 5th) , from our place.

Holy that's one wild pic! But that's also 5 miles too close and 42'C too warm! Even the photos from space looked pretty nasty. Glad that you got spared the misery and grief.

Some parts of Aus haven't been UNDER 40°C this year!
There are times I'm glad I live "down under down under"

Can't say that about Dunalley, Tasman Peninsula, Molesworth etc tho...
To the subject at hand:-
I used my YBA300 into my (3015 modded) Ampeg PF115HE single 15" 8 ohm cab last night.
1st time I'd used the Traynor at a gig at 8 ohms.
Sounded beautiful!
Warm, lush, plenty of headroom & the YBA300 didn't miss a beat, get too warm etc.
I'll be doing this again soon.

Considering making the jump to all-tube (from a GB streamliner 900). Right now it's a race between this and an Ashdown CTM300 my local music shop has going fairly cheap (a little under AU$2000)
If anyone wanted to weigh in on how the traynor might compare to either of this amps in terms of volume and tone I'd love to hear it (into a fEarful stack). I've heard this thing has clean headroom for days, but can it get grindy in the power section? |

That place awesome, none of that US online retailer screw-you-Australia snobbery :P |

Anyone have experience with both this head and something in a high-powered micro? |

I'd also never need one to. But ymmv

I've owned both. The Traynor has more headroom than an SVT - it really is a monster. The 300 watt rating is very conservative. I actually sold my YBA-300 because it was too much amp for my needs - even in large auditoriums I never had the master above 10 o'clock.

I've had good luck flipping Mesa and Ampeg stuff since they're well known brands that are nice and easy to try out and then sell if they're not your trip, but Traynor doesn't have as much of a name over here (I'm Australian, too), and might be a little harder to move if it can't cut it.
Anyone have any cool mods to make the tubes a little more visable? Our guitarist has a 5150 that he customised with a lucite faceplate, and the site of those glowing tubes is awesome. So naturally I have to dwarf his 4 tubes with my 12 :P |

The 300Watts are so damn loud (yes I know there is a volume-knob ;-) )
But on the other hand, this thing looks and sounds TOO good...

Traynors are well known and loved on ozbassforum.com - a few of us have imported YBA-300's from Thomann, plus there are a couple of YBA-200's floating around that we've sold to each other over the years.
