Traynor YT-15 - Should I replace the drivers?!

Sign in to disble this ad
I was reading this thread,
Restoration of an old Traynor YC-610. With pics.
and it got me to thinkin, I wonder if my old (1968), all original Traynor 2x15 cab (YT-15) would benefit from employing new 15's and some insulating.
Currently, it is just taking up space in my basement as it sounds like someone draped a comforter over the cab.
It has the original Marsland speakers and cloth wiring and no sound absortion in the cab.
What say you fellow TBer's? Is this cab worth investing some money into or should I just keep it in it's original state?
I would probably just use it a rehearsal since moving it around much would put quite a toll on this ole back of mine...
If I were to put new drivers in it, what would you folks suggest?
Thanks,
Fishheadjoe

Suggestions are impossible without exact internal measurements of the cab, including port if there is one, and the amp you intend to use it with.

You're obviously correct Bill, I just thought that folks might have come across these cabs in the past as they have been around for close to 40 years!!! LOL
It is a sealed cab design, no port. 2x15 design, no bracing. I don't have any measurements right now, but I will try and get them and put up in this thread.
For an amp, I am running a TC RH450.

Being sealed narrows things considerably. Delta 15 for up to 50 watts per driver, Beta 15 for more than that. Bracing and fully filling the cab with polyester batting is a necessity.

I had one of these in the '70s that had EVM15L drivers in it, to my unknowledgeable ears, at that time, it sounded great. More recently, I had a pair of '60s era YS-15 cabs that I put DeltaPro 15 drivers in, those too, sounded excellent, perhaps they did not have a real subterranean bottom end, but for stage use they were perfect, as such a bottom end as that can create havoc with venues, hollow stages, etc.

Thanks very much for posting this.... seems like a viable alternative to buying two new drivers and also helps to cut down on the weight!
