Tried out the Ampeg PF 500.

Bought strings at GC today. (Giving DR Sunbeams a try). Walked around and saw the PF 500 head with a 4X10 cab. Grabbed a Classic Vibe Jazz bass off the wall (nice bass!!) plugged it in.....oh, no.... ....I liked what I was hearing!

I only played thru it for about 10 minutes with the volume at a 10:00 position while checking out the range of the controls. Lot's of range and it all sounded pretty useful. Well, as much as you can tell in 10 minutes time! Quite a jump in volume from a 10:00 to an 11:00 position and found I couldn't go much beyond that for fear of basses falling off the walls around me!!

As much as I liked it I have a question. Prior to trying out this amp I've never played thru 10" speakers before so I don't know thier quirks and capabilities. While I play a Jazz bass I also play an Ibanez SR505 and I'll tell ya...the low B on this thing will knock a wall down!! Can this amp and cab handle a potent low B once you start cranking it up a bit? Also, as "loud" as it sounded how well does in "punch" thru things? I really couldn't tell in the setting I was in. Or maybe some of you have this head going thru differant speaker sizes and configurations, like 12's instead of 10's.

Yeah, I'm thinking about it but I like to do my homework by asking questions.

What 410 were you playing? I've yet to play a 410 cab except the very cheapest that couldn't handle a low B.

Jimmy, unless I'm mistaken I believe it was the 410 HLF cabinet.

410HLF can easily handle a low B. It's got about the lowest frequency response of any bass cab out there.
