wow! lots of fun trying out these two awesome fun amps. with both a Fender Jazz and P Bass...

GK1001RBII with 410NEO cab: i loved the tone from this amp/cab. really versatile. it also seemed to have lots of character in that it allowed the basses to just kinda morph into into amp and take on whatever character they have to offer. when digging in, lots of grind. seemed to get quite deep as far as tone. the cab also seemed to handle it all quite well. that grind! wow, lots of fun.

Ampeg SVTPro7 with 410HLF: this amp was just a no nonsense kind of full on bass tone. not really a grind machine like the Gk, but really warm. something about it didn't quite grab me like the GK set-up did though, which surprised me. and i wonder why since i love that SVT tone. i'm gong back tomorrow to try it out again, this time with my P bass with TI flats.

it's a tough call here. i really wanted the SVT to just floor me. maybe it will tomorrow?

or maybe wait for the new GK MB800?

but that SVT tone...how would the GK sound with the VT Deluxe? for that matter, how would the 7Pro sound with the VT Deluxe?

UGH!!!!

VTbass loves the GK1001RBII.

I've been playing that combination for a couple of years. The VT can be set up to warm up the GK or you can dial in an SVT sound on the VT and add in some GK growl with the boost control.

I keep the contour all the way off, the voicing switch on 4 string (I play a P5) and roll off a little bit of bass on the GK because both the GK and the VT are kind of scooped so when you put them both together (set flat) it is too much. But you can dial in some great tones.

cool! i love the GK sound but was looking for a pedal to add "something" to it, just to add a different flavor when needed...do you have the VT Bass or the Deluxe version? and it's a great fit? they seem to go hand in hand with the right ears blending the tones...

I play a 1001RB-II thru a NEO410 and NEO212. I use a VT Bass Deluxe as well, and the setup rocks. The VTD really helps to warm up GK, while still keeping the GK punch in tact.

The 410HLF is a super low-reaching cab, and not what I think of when I think SVT. The 810E and 410HE are more what's known as SVT tone because they're sealed. The 610HLF is in between the sealed cabs and the 410HLF in low response. I'm pretty sure the 410HLF is what caused the 7 Pro to sound overly warm to you IMHO.

The 410NEO cabs, to me at least, tend to have quite a bit of mids to them to really accent the GK heads. The tone is really intoxicating though...

I had the 1001RBII with a Ampeg 410HLF and it had so much low end it was almost nauseating. I had to turn it down to 8-9 o'clock to make it tolerable. I'm pretty sure it was the head since I used a SVT-7 Pro with the same cab and it was very smooth. Kind of reinforces my thought that GK cabs are rather mid heavy.

The thing I've found with the SVT-7 is that you have to really drive the gain up for the head to open up. Use the compressor sparingly as it can really squash your tone and muddy it up.
