Trouble with recording from a TCE-BG500 XLR out to a TerraTec DMX

Apologies for the crosspost, but the original request gathered no replies in the recording section, I hope someone can shed light on this.

Ever since I got my TCE BG500-210 and realizing it had a balanced XLR out, I started toying with recording through the amp using my TerraTec DMX 6Fire USB, however, there is a pretty serious problem.

If I connect the amp directly through an XLR, it works - however the DMX input clips rather quickly even though the gain knob on the first channel (the combo XLR/6.3mm) is turned all the way down and the -20 dB pad is engaged. Do I have to use an attenuator of some kind to bring the signal level down? If so, is there a DIY schematic of the circuit? I'm asking because the valve simulator in the amp itself is (naturally) amplitude-dependent, so I'm stuck if I need extra overdrive.

Another thing I'm interested in is using the DMX as part of a reamp/DI loop. Basically I'd like to use one of the output channels to send the signal to a reamp-like box (again, DIY if possible) and, after passing it through the amp, collecting it through the XLR as I explained above. Is it doable? Is there a decent DIY schematic for a reamp box? Is there any place that doesn't charge an arm, a leg and a kidney for a matching transformer? Am I better off asking this latter part in the FX section of the forum?

Edit: I will admit I hadn't tried lowering the volume through software, as I'm not sure if it actually interacts with the electronics of the DMX.

Bump because it already sunk to the third page with no help in sight.

Sounds like you're doing everything correctly: XLR cable from DI out to XLR mic in, -20dB pad ON, it should work. You shouldn't need an outside attenuator, that's what the -20dB switch is for.

I'm not sure about your re-amping scheme, make sure to pay heed to the signal monitoring so you don't create a hardwired feedback loop.
