Troubleshooting a Broken SWR Triad Tweeter

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a SWR Triad cab, and there is no sound coming from the tweeter.

I replaced the fuse with a new one, and that made no difference.

What am I down to: a blown tweeter, or the crossover? Is there a way I can tell what it is?

The trick is, don't check it by playing your bass through it 'cause there is very little sonic information from a bass guitar in that frequency range.
Instead, play a cd with some good quality HF content such as cymbals, female vocals, etc.
If it sounds nrmal, your tweeter is working. If it sounds like a blanket is over the speakers, it's not.

More specific--if I turn the tweeter knob up all the way, and the highs all the way up on my Little Mark II head, there is no change in sound from when all those things are off. None.
No hiss, no crisp anything.

I had the same problem with my triad. I had to replace the horn's diaphragm. Probably ran about $25.
Take off the grill and remove the horn. There will be a manufacturer (mine was Fostex) and model number. Do a search with that info and you should find links to replacement diaphragms. It is an easy fix.
