Troubleshooting Help Needed - Line6-->XLS 202--->fEarful

Sign in to disble this ad
So I wired and bottled up my fEarful 12/6/1 last night, just to see if it works. Tried it out this evening, running my NS into my Line 6 Pod x3 Live, taking one direct balanced out to one side of a Crown XLS 202, and taking that output via Speakon connectors to the fEarful.

At first...nothing...no sound at all. Then I cranked the tone and master volumes on the Pod all the way up, volume pedal pegged, and I finally see an input signal light. At this point cranking the amp all the way up results in well, what seems ***wayy*** quieter than it should be. As in--I could practice late at night and not wake anybody in the house up.

No noise/hum issues at all, and actually the sound quality sounds rather impressive (I mixed the tweeter in and out with good results). It's just darned soft.

Gain issue with the Line 6? Simply not enough wattage with the Crown (I'm not running it bridged, but it's supposed to be putting out 200w/side in stereo mode)? There doesn't seem to be any gain issues with the unbalanced outs on the Line 6 when I run one of those outputs to my friend's powered Yamaha Monitor.

Headphone out on the Line 6 (I hear it's the same as the direct out) is plenty loud with the tone & Master levels at 50%, but then, that's listening on high-sensitivity, low-impedance 'phones, so I don't know if that proves anything.

FWIW, I'm using this crossover: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...kim3043X598154.

Make sure the Line6's out is set to line level. It's a little switch on the back IIRC.

Yep...I checked that early on.

Run another signal into the Crown and make sure its input is functioning properly. Seems it's obviously either input signal or a problem with the input on the Crown.

Could run the X3 into a Db meter of some kind too.

It's the direct outs on the Line 6. Volume's normal running from the balanced outs on my e-Mu soundcard. Likewise normal from the live outputs on the Line 6 (now that I have a 1/4" - XLR cable).

Interesting though, through either the e-Mu or Line 6, the volume cranks about as loud (maybe a hair louder) than my friend's yamaha monitor. Loud enough for rehearsal, but perhaps not for a larger coffeehouse or outdoor performance. Maybe I will bridge the XLS 202 after all.

Thanks for the tips....sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees--'specially late at night.
