Trying to find a micro head that can handle 2ohm load

Sign in to disble this ad
So far, I may have found one (I think), the eden wt550. Anyone else seen any that are 2ohm stable? I already have one GK 212 MBE (4ohm) and plan on getting another, but for that I'd either have to find a 2ohm stable amp, or make a series cable (2 speakon ends wired in a series, into one end).

EDIT: Looks like I'll omit the 2ohm load requirement now

Not a true micro, but the GB Shuttlemax 12 will run 2, 4 Ohm loads with ease and weighs about 10 lbs. Similar size to the 550 at half the weight and into 2 Ohms will thump the Eden with 1200 watts (if the cabs can handle it).

Another option is the Ashdown Little Giant 1000. It has two 4ohm stable 500W amps in it. But I admit it's fugly

The shuttle max, might be a bit larger than what I'm looking for (already got one big head, Ampeg SVT-VR). The carvin does look nice, do any of you guys own one (insight), don't know how easy it will be to find a little giant (discontinued)......all good suggestions though.

If you want light a Carvin BX1500 will drive down to 2Ω per channel. Weight about 15Lb.

yes, I am seeing the little giant is still being sold (on MF), despite ashdown just recently added it to their "legacy" section..

Acoustic Image heads kill at 2 ohms. Lots of power. Very clear neutral sound though that some don't like.

Mesa Boogie Walkabout will do 2 ohms. Not exactly micro but great tone

Why do you need 2 Ohm stability?
Why not putting the boxes in series?

Another candidate: Mesa Boogie Walkabout

Boxes with a crossover can lead to cancellations when series connected.

just for kicks, what about a lightweight pre/power setup? I am thinking like the vestex VDA-1000 with the preamp pedal/rackmount of your choosing?

Also, I think the Mesa Walkabout goes to 2 ohms. Is that micro?

also, considering the price some of these microheads go for used, what about just using two microheads in one rig? (I am assuming the 2u load would mean two cabs, so that would be a head for each cab)

+1 to the Genz ShuttleMAX 12. They are NOT "big."

Seems like you know the property of series. I have a Bass cab that has a series AND a parallel jack. I know if you connect two 8 ohm cabs in series you have 16 ohms. So if I connect my Avatar B212 4 ohm and my 8 ohm 2x10 Bass Cab it will make it 12 ohms right. So it is ok to use a head that is made for either 4 ohm or 8 ohm cabs? Also. If I buy a head that is 2 ohms I can use the 4ohm and another Cab that is 8ohm together connected in Parallel, right?
