Tube amp sound

I am currently too broke to afford a tube amp, but i want to get the dirty sound of a tube amp eg an Orange AD200b or an Ampeg SVT. Is there anyway to replicate this without having to fork out the £1k+ for one of these? At least until i can afford it.

My current gear set-up is a Corvette $$ 4 string bass & a Trace Elliot GP11 through an Ashdown 4x10 cab.

Choose the appropriate Tech21 pedal/pre and buy a power amp like the Peavey IPR 1600.

isn't there an App for that?!!:hiding:;)

There is :)
Try IK Multimedia Amplitube Free
Or one of the other modelers out there.
Great for practice and after you know what sounds you like you can then look for hardware to reproduce it.

+1 Tech 21
Pedal or rack you can't miss.
PSA1.1 offers ultimate grit and grind shaping.

VT bass for the Ampeg, Oxford for the Orange. But there are plenty of decent sounding valve amps for less than a grand. I have some for sale for about same price as a Sansamp pedal and Peavey IPR.

Tech 21 VT pedal....

'nuff said.;)

Craigslist/Ebay. My rig is pieced together of used finds at great prices.

a Tech 21 of your choosing (VT would be a good choice) or a Catalinbread SFT would be a great way to get a tube vibe on the cheap.

Peavey VB2, will get the sound without costing as much as an Ampeg or an Orange.

A VT pedal would go a long ways. However, you have a VERY modern setup there. Your bass, head, and cab probably sound as far from "vintage" or "tubey" as any components out there. So you are fighting an uphill battle in my book. But good luck anyway.

The Orange Bass Terror 500 is the most tubey sounding non-tube amp I've ever heard.

This is the sound I get with a SansAmp Bass Driver DI and a slight EQ adjustment on my head.

I agree with you about the bass and cab, but the head is from the 1970's, so not really modern ;)

Trace only formed in 1979, and that wasn't one of their first amps, so 70s is unlikely.
