I've listened those samples in my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro through ESI Maya 44.
Voted that 1st sample is VT and 2nd is SVT! I WAS WRONG! IMHO 2nd sample sounded more rounder, 1st is more bright.
I wanted to buy a tube preamp instead of VT and use VT as an overdrive, but the more I play it the less I want another preamp! It sound really, really, really, REALLY CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL SVT! WOW!
P.S. God, please, give us a new programmable VT-Bass!

Jimmy,
Weird turn of events.
I ordered the VT from MF, package came (seemed a little heavy), opened up the box and what was staring at me? An Ashdown James Lomenzo Hyperdrive. Instead of packing it back up, I gave it the old "whut fer", turns out I actually like it for the gap in distortion, from my PDDI. I guess the VT isn't meant to be for me yet.

I thought I'ld bring this thread back for awesomeness and still relevant informations!! Awesome clips Jimmy! The VT is surely the pedal of the future. I actually did pick the first one as the svt (honest) because yeah the VT sounded a little cleaner in the low end and a little less rough, but I actually preferred it. Now I'm gassing for one even harder.

But then I prefer the stingray HH jazz and precision impersonations rather than the real thing. So tempted to buy a cheap poweramp and build a fEarful 12126 and this.... hmmm....

Not caring which is which but I like the second clip a lot better.

It was my first time hearing these clips. I was wrong, I thought there was more magic in clip 2= SVT.

I had my mind made up in the middle of clip 1, then I was sure of it in the middle of clip 2. I'm glad I didn't have money on it.

I'm a little frustrated with my sound, maybe one of you guys can help me out (HELP!. )
I've been tweaking my VT Bass for days but just can't seem to get anywhere near to my desired sound. I really hope someone (maybe Jimmy) can give me some advice.
Here's a clip of the sound I'm striving for:

My bass is a passiv Precision clone with PJ pick-ups

I won. Which is odd, considering Jimmy is like my anti-tone lol.

Well, I just found out about this poll and I would have chosen #1 (seriously). But I still choose the MXR M80 as the best pedal for bass! It makes your bass sound tubey and sweet. It also has one of the best distortions I've heard, for a pedal and once it is connected to my Ashdown ABM EVO III... it rocks like no other!! My VT Bass pedal was sold on Ebay.

not sure, but i'd probably start with the character and mid up to at least noon, and the drive pretty hot.

Guessed right, I prefer the VT tone personally but they are so close in a recording mix i doubt anyone would even know the difference...

I am however quite surprised by your settings on the VT for the recording... character and treble all the way off - yet it still has good definition and top end?

Never played through a SVT so I went for the best sound and picked #1. Sucks because I wanted to buy a vt pedal.

Sorry bro...I had a computer crash last year that wiped out all my sample files except for a few. Those files went with it.

Links work fine on my IPhone. By the way, just got a really great deal on a VTD (this is my 4th one). I really want to love it but too much highs but I'm going to try your approach with the character and treble off. That clip doesn't sound trebley too me. Right now I'm using two Zoom B3s to get my SVT sound. Even though it sounds great. I need 4 effects to reach my goal. Hopefully the VT will help.
