Tube Pre to a SS/GK with an Active bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I was reading in another thread (which I can't find now) about using an active DI/(possible Preamp) with a passive bass and vice versa.

I want to add some Tube warmth to my sound through a pedal/pre/di using my effects loop. Am I doing it wrong if is use an active pedal pre as apposed to something passive? Considering I have an active bass.

I know it CAN be done, but I get the feeling that it would wrong to run an active bass into an active pre/DI/pedal to the effects loop.

The pedal pre I am looking at is

Also to the people with experience with running an bass rig this way, do you set your amp to zero and use the pedals eq? And what do you do with the settings on your bass?

I was also considering getting the MesaBigBlock750. That amp sounds like it could solve my issues. But I wanted to see if I could salvage my GK1001RB-II that I love so much. Plus I would want to get new speakers and the Dave Hall is a lot cheaper then going the other route.

Sorry for the long post, Thanks

run your pre into the effects return on your amp, then you will be using the gk power amp only bypassing the gk pre and using your pedals eq as your pre settings

What he said...

Run it into the effects return of the GK.
That bypasses everything but the boost and master volume.

Thanks guys. So you are saying:

bass > pedal > Effects loop In ?

Or are you saying

bass > input and the pedal ran through the loop?

I run a pre/pedal through my effects loop now but it does not turn of my eq's on the GK.

I'm sure I can do what I am looking to do, I just don't think it makes the best sense considering my bass is already active. But I think it will sound great.
