Tube Preamps

Hey, I'm looking for some suggestions on which tube preamp to buy for my live rig, and also for studio use. I've been looking for a Ampeg SVT Tube Mic Pre amp. Which i've used in the past and loved!!!! However they're rather hard to find and also very pricey! I use a Markbass 210 combo with a Eden D115XL extension cabinet. I love the clarity and punch of the MB, but I just miss the fatness and warmth of a tube amp.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

If you haven't already done so, check out some clips of different preamps at the link below. Many of the preamps have tubes.

I'll be honest, I kinda have my eye on an ART Pro Channel, which should sound very similar to the "Tube Channel" preamp you can hear at the link above.

Go get a Read Purity. I have owned one for several years, and I never want to see it go. There have been a few in the classifieds here on TB. Clean, fat, punchy, super reliable, killer live or in the studio. Built like an absolute tank. A bit pricey, but worth every penny, and it sounds like the tone you are after.

There's a TON of tube pres on the market, but I've had great luck running passive basses (Fender Precision) into the Evil Twin made by Eclair Engineering.

It's great for live and studio use.

Can't let this go by without a mention of the Alembic FX-1.
Whole 'nother cat - the only thing that occasionally gives me GAS for anything besides Genz-Benz.

Sounds like you might like an Ampeg SVT-2P or SVP preamp.
