Tubes

I have a Ampeg SVT 6 PRO and i am wanting to upgrade my tube but i just dont know which one would sound best? In it now are 12AX7 groove tubes and 12AU7 electro-harmic. I know those tubes are not that good they were in it when i bought it and i tried some tung-sol and JJ tesla tubes and they made my bass amp sound like a guitar amp! Does anybody have a SVT 6 PRO? If so what tubes do you have in it or if you have any suggestions on tubes i would like to hear them!

Thanks!

tried the chinese Marshall tubes? strange as it seems, they do add a bit of grit to the sound.
No harm in trying them..
Your existing preamp tubes should last you at least 25 years.

there are tons of tubes these days...from new ones to new old stock classics. it's all a matter of trying a handful and finding ones you like.

but don't sell groove tubes and ehx tubes short. if they work and the amp sounds good to you, the brand is immaterial.

I owned a 6Pro for several years, and ran with whatever Ampeg put in at the factory. There are a total of 6 tubes in that amp, 3 or 4 for the preamp, and 2 or 3 for the driver stage. No way of knowing what will sound best, until you've tried everything, but for my money, they sound great stock.

I've swapped the stock Sovtek tubes out of my 3-Pros with Tung Sols, JJ's, etc... and honestly don't really notice that big of difference. If anything, I think the stock Sovteks sounded the best.
