Tubes for SVT-3

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all!

I need to replace my tubes. There are 3 12AX7's in the pre and 2 more i the power section. I'm just curious what you guys think. My next gig is with a reggae & blues project and I'm leaning toward trying EHX tubes, but my main band is a rock band. I appreciate your help and opinions.

Thanks,
Matt

I had EHX tubes in my svppro preamp which is bassically the same preamp. For that particular preamp i prefered them over others i tried.

Why do you "need" to replace them? Preamp tubes can last decades, why fix what isn't broken?

ya, i agree. tubes will make slight differences, but nothing so dramatic where it really matters based on the music you play. i used to switch out tubes in my svt 3 pro now and then and really noticed no change at all.

I think I "need" tubes because my amp sounds like it did right before I replaced them 6 years ago. And, I'm looking for it to sound like it did right after I replaced them, 6 years ago... Anyway, after reading a ton, I'm leaning toward Tung-Sol because, from what I can tell, they sound very clean.

Thanks!

if you're like me and you hate spending money on replacing tubes, you might want to research what's wrong a bit before you buy 5 new tubes. it could be one tube, it could be all of them, or it could be that the mosfets need biasing and the tubes are ok. it would kind of suck to spend $100 on tubes to not get the problem fixed.
