Turning a 1M pot into a 4M pot

Sign in to disble this ad
Im building a tube preamp and Im replicating the ampeg b15 tone circuit. The pot for treble is meant to be a 4M but the shop I go to only has pots up to 1M. Is there a way to turn it into a 4M, putting a certain resistor somewhere on it?

Not easily. You can put 3M on one side or the other but then you'll lost most of the range.

Depending on the circuit it may be possible to scale all the other resistors/capacitors to work with a 1M pot, but no guarantees.

Probably less hassle long-term to hunt down the 4M pot mail-order, I'm afraid.
