Question Turning scrap into Gold

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok here's the set up, hopefully by Christmas a new stereo system will be purchased and the old stereo system i'm hoping to convert it into a power amp.
The stereo is a SONY and consist of two cabinets each with a 5" (i think) woofer and a tweeter. the system can push 320 watts. so if anyone can point me in the right direction or give tips that would be great.

What do you think the old "stereo" will be able to do? Not as a bass amp I hope, that will turn scrap into garbage.

Home stereo equipment will not be adequate for anything but low volume practice.

Not built to level of actual musical instrument gear.

Any help to do what? You have not said what you want to do with the old stereo! Yes you could extract the gold plate from IC leads and internal gold wire but there is not much at all to reclaim from a single unit.
WHAT are you wanting to do?

Use it like a big set of non-head-mounted headphones. Use the headphone/aux out on any bass gear (something that has or can work as a preamp) into any of the inputs. Use compression to keep transients from blowing it up. Enjoy your low volume practice rig.

A headphone amp plugged into a good set of computer speakers, especially a set with a subwoofer, sounds good for living room practice. I imagine you could do something similar using the aux in jack of your stereo and a cheap headphone amp.
