i have one that didn't go well. disconnected the tweeter in my little markbass 112 combo and it lost all high end whatsoever. i reconnected it and just made it less intense with the vle control.

i only have one cab with a tweeter now, and i haven't used it in almost 3 years. but when i did, i'd just turn it off and it worked out fine.

I still have to bypass the crossovers+horns in my pair of B212s but just haven't had time to get to it. I know I'm going to like 'em a whole lot better that way.

Well, if the crossover isn't built into the amp head it would be a lot easier. just rewire it so the speakers are connected directly to the head.

Loved my DB500 but always had problems with the amp. So I pulled it out, put a crossover and L pad in the cab and love it. Though I mainly use it for a backup and rehearsals it sounds great with all the heads I've used it with. (MB SD800, LM II, Mesa M6, Genz GBE750, GK 700, 1001 and mostly with my beat up backline 600.

I blew the tweeter once and replaced the diaphragm for $18. The woofer is something solid from eminence that is pretty good at handling a low B.

I have an Ampeg BA115, and they are notorious for having a bad hiss, noticeable because of the tweeter. Supposedly it's an easy fix to cut out the tweeer, though, as apparently there is no crossover involved, and it's just a matter of removing the grill, and unhooking the wires. I haven't had a chance to put the amp thru it's paces yet, so, I haven't been bothered by any hiss so far, if at some point in the future it does, I will not hesitate to do this, as I am going for a more "vintage" tone, so a loss of a little high end won't bother me.

hmmm so this thread has me wondering about installing an L-pad to dial in a little tweet to taste. Is this pretty easy to do and is a crossover needed to do it?

I think there are separate outputs to the tweeter and woofer on the 500. Amps sends around 30 watts to the tweeter. If this is the case ( and I'm pretty sure it is) then a crossover is not needed.

Adding an L Pad is relatively easy. You will need to drill a hole in your cabinet though. If you're happy with the sound now I'd leave it as is. If you want a project ....

Theres a decent 50 wat L Pad and control plate from parts-express.com that will run you around $11 for both.

I just bypassed the crossover+tweeter in both my B212 Avatars. I suspect those tweeters don't kick in until way above Midrange Territory, and since I typically roll off my treble at the front end, I wasn't exactly surprised that there was no perceivable difference.
