The tweeter has a short in the wires?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've tried the GB 610 XB2 not too long ago with my 800rb head and liked it quite a bit. I've been on the lookout for it on the used market and just found one but the poster mentions a short in the tweeters' wires. Anybody has any experience with that kind of problem? I would most likely take it to repairs unless it was unbelievably easy to do on my own. Any idea how much something like that might cost me?

That phrase could mean any number of things (or be completely inaccurate).
Actually, it sounds like something that someone who has no clue would say!

There should only be two wires leading from the xover to the tweeter terminals and it's unlikely they are shorted. Easy enough to check though.

Yeah that was my guess, about the clueless part, but I know just as little, thus the post to all my senior brethren of tb. $475 and the cab is in perfect order except for that "short", maybe I can bring it down to 425$ mmm.. good deal?

Without knowing what the actual symptoms are, it's still hard to say. Something tells me the tweeter must be distorting, or crackling, or something. This could be a blown tweeter rather than a "short". If that's the case, you could replace it, or go tweeterless by bypassing the xover entirely which would send a full range signal to the tens.

I personally could probably live with that since my sound doesn't require extreme HF content. I normally turn the attenuator almost off on my Goliath III 4x10 anyway.

Yes, he probably meant a short in the tweeter's voice coil wires (or, more correctly, wire).

Simple- ask him what the actual symptoms are. I suspect it's either that there's no sound at all from the tweet, or it is crackling. No sound could be as simple as a loose wire or a blown tweeter fuse. Crackling is a different issue, but finding out more accurately what the issue is would be a big help.
