Tweeters and Static

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys I'm new to TalkBass so here it goes.

I recently got a new GK MB210 2x10 500W combo amp and have been hearing static when I turn on the tweeter. When I originally turned on the tweeter there was no static. Any help on what this means?

Can you explain the static any clearer? Also, what's all in the signal chain? Tweeters don't produce sound, they just "emit" the sound they're fed. Something else is actually "making" the noise.

Nothing else but me and the amp in the signal chain When the tweeter button is off no sound comes out of the amp unless i play something. if it's on there is a sort of quiet hissing noise.

Is it louder with the bass plugged in? Does the sound's volume change with the room you're in or amp placement (with no bass plugged in)? Does it change based on where ou and your bass are? All amps will exhibit a little noise, especially with poor grounding or lots of powerful electronics around. A bass with single coils, poor shielding or even a cheap cable can contribute too. There are a lot of possible factors. A tweeter is producing an accurate reproduction of what's fed into it and will reproduce hf interference more than a crossed over woofer will, henc why it quiets up with it off.
