Sign in to disble this ad
Ya get TWO Leslies for the pretty decent price of $3K PLUS a free organ to sell for cash return!

http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/msg/1746329347.html

I think this is a pretty good deal for those Leslies alone!

Where is "Inland Empire"? I've never heard of those Leslie models before; I don't think they are really "good" ones like a 122 or 145 model.

Riverside County, SoCal.

Perris is near the 60/215/15 Freeway area..

Interesting in that I decided to Google those Leslies and got some odd results:::

I managed to buy a rather unusual Leslie for a rather unusual low price. I had a friend at work mention that he knew someone that had a Leslie and knew of my recent interest in Hammonds and Leslie's. He gave me a price I couldn't refuse. He wasn't sure of the model, but he did say the cabinet was wood, had tubes, and had a "spinning thing". I figured this was a full fledged Leslie and told him to bring it in.

Today he brought it in and from the front it looked like a Model 122. Then he opened up the back, and my hopes sank a bit. The insides were different, there is no rotating horn on the top, instead there is three 6 by 9 speakers (or 5 by 7). The 15" woofer is there, but it doesn't fire into a lower rotor.

Below the 15" woofer is the amp. This is where things get really weird. The amp has EIGHT 7189 output tubes. Dealing with tube amps on a regular basis, this indicated that this amp has four channels. NEVER seen this on a Leslie before.

Now next to the amp IS a rotor, but it has a 6 by 9 speaker mounted in it. There is one motor driving the rotor and on the top there is another belt driving a pulley on a small box.

I opened the box and there is a rotating capacitor inside. My guess is that this Leslie uses a simulated high end rotating horn and uses a midrange full rotor and the bass, is just that a 15" woofer. There is no evidence of a passive crossover, so I am assuming that it is an active system.
So-o-o ???

Those aren't the spinning Doppler effect Leslie's
They look like some tremolo version
Nice looking wood at least.

Sounds like a rotosonic model. Provides more of a "theatre" organ sound. Thanks for pointing out the location, I'm in Michigan so I guess I won't worry about these then!

Just as well - Leslies are lousy for bass.

I actually own 2 Hammond A100 organs and a solid-state Leslie 330, but I'm always on the lookout for a tube Leslie. I've actually plugged my bass into my Leslie and it doesn't sound too bad with natural chorus effect!
