Two cabs to an ampeg PF500 ??

Okay, this may be a silly question, but i'm willing to risk it to make the right choice on a new head.

On the back of the PF500, there is one 1/4" output and one speakon output.

Does this mean i can run two cabs simultaneously ? If so, and they are both 8 ohm cabs, will that get me to 4 ohms and full use of the 500 watts giving me 250 watts per cab, or will it stay as 8 ohms and split the 300 watts giving me 150 watts per cab.

I know, I confused myself

The Ampeg is good down to 4 ohms, so you can use one 4 ohm cab or two 8 ohm cabs.
Yes you'll get all 500 watts.
You can plug the cabs into both jacks on the head or you can ''daisy chain'' the cabs: plug one cab into the head then run another cable from that cab to another cab.
Most modern cabs haves two input jacks wired in parallel meaning it's the same as plugging both cabs into the head.
If you have more questions read the ohm FAQ sticky at the top of the forum.

Thanks.

I think what was really confusing me is that my SWR has two speakon connections that I can use either 1/4" or speakons. Seeing one of each kinda threw me for a loop.

This is correct. You can go to the ampeg web site and download the users manual and it will explain it as well.
