Two dumb questions for the price of one

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, so these are kind of silly questions, but they need answers. I have an Ampeg 2x15 cab. It's essentially the same construction as an 8x10, for those of you who may not know. I want to lay it down on it's side for a gig. My questions are these-

A) Will this effect the tone or sound dispersion in any substantially adverse way?

B) I'm 5' 11", about 150 lbs. Add about 10 lbs. for the Ric. Can I stand on the cab while it's on it's side?

Thank god for Talkbass.

hes saying it will negatively affect your sound dispersion. It will cause the sound to be less focused and some bass imaging will be diminished.

Of course you stand on the cab....you'll likely fall off and ruin your bass and get hurt, but the cab is strong enough to support your weight.

A 2x15 on it's side will not be as loud as it would standing vertical, beaming would be the issue.

Laying the cab on it's side will limit midrange dispersion. The effect will make it seem 'bassier.' But it will work. For best midrange fidelity, it's always better to stack drivers vertically rather than horizontally.

Depends on whether or not you're playing metal.

If you want to do it in high style, I'd choose this one:

If you're wondering, it's real, and it works.

From Ampeg site, 'Milestones:' "In April, 1988, Ampeg creates a nine foot tall, 720 pound giant SVT which receives a "World's Largest Working Amplifier" award from the Guiness Book of World Records."

My understanding is it's got two complete power sections, for 600 watts total, and 16 10's.
