UK 115/230v. Power Source/Cord/Amp Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an Ashdown built EA iAmp500/UK, based on the ABM-500II power section, that I want to use in the UK. There is no voltage selector switch for 115/230 like on my EA iAmp800. It does say on the amp to use a T3.15A fuse for 230 volt and a T6.3A for 115 volt. Am I correct in assuming that changing the fuse is the only modification I need to make, other than a UK power cord of course?

There are no instructions in either the Ashdown or Euphonic owners manuals and I'm "technically challenged". Ken

I'm not familiar with the amp but generally if equipment has a universal switching power supply then right near the IEC mains inlet it would say something like; 110-230Vac. Someone on here (from Sweden I think) recently posted about buying an amp from an American TB'er - plugging it straight into the local 230V supply and BANG! I'm really surprised there's no mention of it in the literature - even if it's only the usual "make sure the equipment matches the local power supply". Proceed with extreme caution and if in doubt use a transformer. In the UK, building site electrical equipment is almost always 110V and transformers to run them from the 230V cost around £40 and upwards. Big and heavy though.

Copy and paste from the thread you started at 1:56pm asking same question!

There is a VERY good possibility that connections will need to be changed inside the amp. Not concidered a user option so only service centers or techs that have access to the info will know? Contact the Company and ask if it is an auto-switching power supply or if it will require modification.
